A course in business management lays the foundation for a career in management. Many avenues are open to a student after pursuing a BBA/BMS/BBM:
1. Campus Placements
A plethora of corporate firms (including multinationals, domestic companies and start-ups) regularly visit top UG management campuses such as IIM Indore, Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, Christ University, Narsee Monjee, Symbiosis etc. These firms offer a variety of work domains such as Management Consulting, Finance & Advisory Services, Treasury, Audit and Book-keeping, Sales & Marketing, Business Development, Human Resources etc.
2. Off-campus jobs
Besides applying to companies that visit your campus, it is also advisable to apply off-campus to recruiters. A strong resume, good communication and inter-personal skills and domain-specific aptitude are necessities for a good off-campus job.
3. Pursue an MBA
Career growth in the corporate world is closely linked to having an MBA or PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management). Indian B-schools that accept CAT, XAT, GMAT, NMAT, SNAP etc. see a large proportion of applicants being fresh graduates. Interested students may also apply to overseas B-schools in US, Europe, Australia, Singapore and the like.
4. Entrepreneurship
With the current state of the economy and the pace of technology, start-ups are more than just a fad today. A BBA equips graduates with strong business fundamentals, leadership and communication skills and also gives plenty of exposure to successful entrepreneurs through seminars and various contests. Additionally the top colleges also have incubation centres where good start-up ideas can get mentorship and funding – right from developing a pilot to creating/validating a robust business plan.
5. Government Sector
Many reputed government exams such as IBPS, SBI and other bank exams require a working knowledge of business, economics and the banking sector. Further, BBA graduates will find it quite easy to crack these exams to get a cushy government job, with excellent perquisites and salaries. Besides the banking sector, one may also look at civil services (UPSC and other state exams) and the Armed Forces.
6. Certification Exams
A student of BBA may additionally gain specified industry-specific knowledge and expertise by qualifying exams such as Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Crisil Certified Analyst Program (CCAP), Chartetext-primary Financial Analyst (CFA), NCFM, Risk Management, Digital Marketing, SEO, Data Science and Analytics etc.
7. Other options
Management is a broad field and a BBA student can venture into any field such as Mass Communications, Event Management, Advertising, Corporate Communications, Hospitality, Social Sciences etc. and also gain entry into world organizations such as the UN, World Bank, Foreign Embassies, Non-Governmental organizations etc.
